Our last full day in Barcelona we took the Metro to La Sagrada Familia (Church of the Holy Family), which is a GORGEOUS piece of architecture that began construction in 1892 and will not be finished for another 20 years (It is currently financed by private donations and admission ticket sales – no government money). La Sagrada Familia is Antoni Gaudi’s most famous piece of work in Barcelona, for good reason. We were blown away by the amazing detail carved into every archway and available space on the outside. On the inside, there are more clean lines and stained glass, but it is still breathtaking all the same. We’ve posted quite a few pictures and a couple videos of La Sagrada Familia. We ate at another Pizza Marzano location for lunch that day, and had basically a macaroni & cheese dish that was pretty good but the Bufalito pizza was definitely better.
After La Sagrada Familia we returned to our hotel to watch the sun set over the city, before taking the Metro to the MNAC and the Magic Fountain of Montjuic. The fountain has a light and music show every Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun during the summer months between 9-11:30p. It was really beautiful and there were a ton of people there! We have some beautiful pictures and a video of the fountain that we’ll post soon. That night we ate some tapas and drank some sangria at BarRaval by our hotel; they have delicious calamari and croquetas. We then returned to the hotel to pack up our belongings and head to the airport the next morning.
